Sonya Holowell and Ben Carey first performed together as Sumn Conduit in late 2018. Since that time, the duo have developed their unique style of improvised music across numerous live performances, combining the raw emotional power of the voice with the expansive and chaotic textures of the modular synthesiser.

Despite the disparate nature of their sound sources, Holowell's dexterous voice emerges from and interweaves with Carey's carefully piloted synth patches, the pair finding common ground in some of the most unlikely musical scenarios. Their improvised sets unfold unhurriedly throughout their often long durations, unfurling microtonal harmonies, fragments of text and bursts of noise with a spirit of discovery.

'Track' was improvised and recorded live at Carriageworks, Sydney, as part of the Liveworks Festival of Experimental Art in October, 2019. Across its nearly hour long duration, the performance showcases the duo at their best: a pair of musicians exploring the boundaries of their materials with both sensitive and energetic virtuosity.
